– KIPO opened the Ylang Ylang Herb Oil Center in the Philippines as a IP sharing project –
The Ylang Ylang Herb Oil Center opened in Anao, Tarlac province of the Philippines on March 13th, 2017 as part of KIPO’s Global IP-sharing Project. Many high-level officials attended the opening ceremony and announced that they wished to improve bilateral relations through IPR cooperation.
About 100 people attended the opening ceremony, including Director General Park Seong-Joon of KIPO’s Intellectual Property Protection & International Cooperation Bureau, Director Lim Hyun-suk of KIPO’s Multilateral Affairs Division, Vice President of the Philippines Leni G. Robredo, Benigno Aquino, former president of the Philippines, and Susan A. Yap, Governor of the province of Tarlac.
Global IP-Sharing Projects aims to assist developing countries by using expired patents so as to help solve day-to-day problems and enhance quality of life.
In 2013, KIPO developed an oil extractor for Anao, Philippines. KIPO disseminated an improved prototype of an oil extractor in cooperation with the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech). From 2014 to 2016, we additionally supplied 10 oil extractors, through a KOICA-KIPA public cooperation project, and as a result, the Philippines opened the Herb Oil Center. KIPO has also provided technology and brand education to residents of Anao to enable them to more effectively market essential herbal oil products.
Leni G. Robredo, Vice President of the Philippines, stated that Korea’s IP sharing projects are examples which demonstrate cooperation with Koreans, who are a traditional ally, and are expected to contribute greatly to an increase in regional income, generation as well as creation of jobs, and an overall revitalization of the economy.
Director General Park Seong-Joon of KIPO’s Intellectual Property Protection & International Cooperation Bureau said that the Philippines is a welcomed and long-standing ally, dating back to the Korean War, that sent troops during the Korean War. He also stated that the development into today’s Korea was only possible with the help of such allied forces and the international community, and he insisted that KIPO will strive to share our development experiences and achievements with various developing countries through the IP-Sharing projects.
