– KIPO developed the ”Guidebook for SMEs’ IP-Business Cycle” and disseminated it to APEC member states –
KIPO attended the APEC IPEG (Intellectual Property Experts Group) meeting and presented the “Guidebook for SMEs’ IP-Business Cycle” on February 18th to 19th, 2017. This Guidebook contains comprehensive contents that aim to enhance strategic use of IP of SMEs in the APEC region.
The “Guidebook for SMEs’ IP-Business Cycle” is based on 6 projects relating to IP creation, including prior art search, and dispatching IP experts as well as 12 projects relating to IP utilizing, including building prototypes of superior invention goods, and supporting evaluation of patent technology. This Guidebook is organized by stages of policies from low difficulty to high difficulty, so APEC member states can choose the suitable polices taking into consideration their economic and political conditions. Also, it provides the type of roles SMEs, government and related organizations can have when helping policymakers carry out IP projects immediately.
The ‘Guidebook for SMEs’ IP-Business Cycle’ contains researches and analyses about advanced IP policies of developed countries such as the united states of America and Japan, with focuse on the IP policies of Korea. KIPO has led the Korean IP administration wave, especially in areas of exporting patent administration information system and examination manpower.
Through the development of the “Guidebook for SMEs’ IP-Business Cycle”, we expect our country’s IP policies to be circulated to developing countries.
Director Lim Hyun-suk of KIPO’s Multilateral Affairs Division said that the strategic use of IP is becoming very important in the era of the 4th industrial revolution and he expects this Guidebook will contribute to the innovation of SMEs in the APEC region and strengthen Korea’s status as an IP advanced country.
